Package Design

Client: North Pole Kids’ Club
Product line: An activity kit that transforms kids into official elves, helping Santa bring magical Christmas activities and traditions to families and friends

I whole-heartedly recommend Jill to anyone looking for a talented designer, art director, or illustrator. Jill has become my go-to design person — helping me rebrand a children’s line, redesign packaging, develop sales materials, and tackle any design/creative projects that come up. She works collaboratively, so even though I hire her as a freelancer, she feels like a co-worker who cares about my projects as much as I do. I am always impressed with the creative details she incorporates… and her typography is outstanding! Aside from her amazing work, she is a hard worker, responds quickly and is a delight to work with. I look forward to our next project!

It started with a challenge…

Colleen was in need of a re-design of her kit’s packaging. Her original box wasn’t quickly explaining the kit’s purpose or showing what’s inside.

I put pencil to paper and sketched out a few ideas of how we could relay the fun messaging and how a clear window could be incorporated to show the unique contents inside—Santa’s magic key and the official Junior Elf Santa hat. I presented 3 concepts to solve the design challenge.

Colleen chose concept 3. She liked having the clear window and title in the center, drawing the viewer in to the scene.

Then the illustration and design magic happened…

Colleen already had an illustration style throughout her kit so we hired the original artist to illustrate the scene for the new packaging. I created some eye catching hand lettering for the descriptions and branding then pulled all the elements together into a cohesive package.

The redesigned packaging helped the product win a National Parenting Award in 2016!

But wait, there’s more…

Colleen loved the new package design so much that she asked me to design some of her promotional items as well.
